DJ Mikey's Biography (as much as I can remember)
preface
If you'd like to know a little more about me and my experience with music/video/entertainment, you are in the right place! This Biography felt a bit "uppity" when I read it back to myself, and that is the last thing that I am, so I was a bit worried. I've had a lot of exciting opportunities experiences in my lifetime and I feel very lucky to be doing something I'm passionate about as a career.
My name is Michael Nichols, but most people call me DJ Mikey. I have always loved music, but the way music interacts with emotions and experiences may actually be my true love.
At the age of 2, I could tell you what artist was on what label-- I was mesmerized with the local jukebox --
It was something that energized me every time I saw it. I didn't realize it then, but passion was what I was feeling.
After coming to Atlanta from SC to attend the Art Institute of Atlanta, I received my degree in Audio/Video Production. During my Senior year of College, I was offered an internship with the largest concert promoters in the Southeast (Alex Cooley/Peter Conlon) so I couldn't resist having that experience. I ended up meeting some very influential people working here, but I found myself being drawn toward the actual "Studio" production feel of music. It gives more opportunity for elaboration and "tweaking".
I have produced remixes for many artists including Pink, Linda Perry and No Doubt which continues to be an amazing experience every time I work on a project for a major label. I was a Production Coordinator for a live video for Indigo Girls / Michelle Malone and Drag the River that was released in 1990 as a rare promo item to coincide with the release of her Arista debut, "Relentless". I love to add my "flavor" to existing product, and it's great to know that people love that particular flavor. I feel like it makes it my own, but actually, I'm standing on the shoulders of geniuses. Although I have a library of over 800,000 songs, I have produced/remixed over 75 tracks that I'm sure you may have heard of.... but with a dash of DJ Mikey flavor added.
Since starting the DJ Business, it has been nonstop and I love every minute of it. My only regret is having to turn down a client because I'm already booked (so make sure you plan ahead!)
I have the very best equipment including Shure Microphones, KRK Speakers, Yamaha StagePas, Ultrasone, SONY, Toshiba, Stanton (DaScratch) and my choice of software for live DJ shows is Virtual DJ. It makes a great show and the sound is incredible no matter what size the room/hall is. I adjust my setup for various acoustics and I've never encountered any issues.
My passion is music and the way it affects people (emotionally, physically) and I found my calling as a professional Producer/DJ. I give a piece of my heart every time I perform and I get double in return. Thanks for listening and I hope to get an opportunity to work with you.
All My Best,
DJ Mikey
